NFR-follow-up: Babysitting faux grandchild has been successfully averted!

At least for the time being.

After he ix-nayed my email message, Larry called the family (no answer) and then wrote that he was looking forward to seeing them soon.

He then added that he was getting ready for another critical eye surgery and that I would be be coordinating work to help with his appointments and recovery visits. (all true)

They replied back yesterday that since he'll be tied up, they'll "just hang around and visit" and skip the cruise this time.

YAY!

Mom wants Larry to Skype so Baby will recognize him when they finally arrive. Since I have actually scared myself by catching an image of my face on the computer, I won't be Skyping anytime soon. (Mom is a former model and flight attendant with no self-image issues).

 
I am happy that it worked out the way you wanted it to. I read somewhere that there has been

an increase in neck surgery as a result of skype / face time.

 
I'm going to invent something for all the people I see walking with their heads down

looking at their phone constantly. I have seen the future and it involves a neck brace. Watch for me soon on an Infomercial.

(By the way, my cellphone is a 5-year old Tracfone that I carry for roadside emergencies. I don't even know my own number...it's written in Sharpie on the backside.)

 
I created billboards....on the floor because of this

when we were doing a big voting thing at work, instead of putting up posters I created big sticker poster type things on the floor....because nobody ever looks up from their @#$%^& phones. We got more notice/comments than any of the posters we'd done in the past.

 
Does "hang around and visit mean SLEEPING in your home?

If I recall, they were very critical of the accommodations, so perhaps an email with reasonable local hotels would be in order. smileys/smile.gif Hey, nip it now! (I'm gonna put that on a t-shirt!)

I made them all stars - like the Walk of Fame. It was a hoot!

Hey --- maybe they'd help drive traffic to Dawn's upstairs cafe? Walk of Fame info stars on the stairs, vintage movie star posters/pixs on the walls? Might be a fun theme for a collective.

 
Yeah for the babysitting thing but be careful about staying in the home... motel and hotel list is a

great idea.

 
Hmmm, I think he should say that they shouldn't postpone their cruise

on his account, and he's happy to spend an afternoon with them when they're coming through town.

 
My, that was an eloquent thought. But too late. They will stay here unless

Mom scores an amazing hotel rate over in Disney Universe...something she manages to do FROM CANADA! And that I never seem to find, even though I live here.

 
I guess it would be crass to post one of those hotel 'check out time' signs on the back of the door?

 
I can't tell you how many people I've almost run over because they never look up

from that darn phone even when approaching a street - they never even break stride, glaring at you if you have to slam on your breaks!

 
Remember? This is the same person who complained the birds OUTSIDE were too noisy. I don't think a

notice would phase her.
