couple of months. I have no idea if there's anything similar out there or not. Anyone one use a reader they can recommend or can anyone give any other options? I'd rather not use email for the blogs as there are a lot of them and my email inbox is already overloaded.

Right now Feedly looks like the front-runner, I'm still in full denial...

Lots are scrambling to get the RSS customers, I heard Digg is getting into the game too. I'm still in wait/see mode.

(clutching my Reader tightly and insisting G will have to pry it from my cold dead hands)

Two options for you...

Feedly and Bloglovin

I test-drove both, ended up liking Feedly better - it's pretty annoying that Google reader decided to be no longer smileys/frown.gif

I just added a note on my blog to tell subscribers to choose other options - the problem is Google removed the Reader from its front page, in fact it is tricky to find it now. I've noticed a drop in page views on my blog since they did that, and lots of bloggers are pretty upset.

anyway, try Feedly - you get all your subscriptions moved for you, you don't have to do anything else. It adds a button on your toolbar, so you can easily click on it when you want to see if there's anything new

Do you still "see" the reader on the google page?

I used to be able to get it in the "more" tab at google - now there are 10 possible links there, from "translate" to "video" then a tab "even more" - but the reader is not there either.

the only way I can retrieve it is by doing a search for google reader, and then jumping on that link

I wonder if everyone has the same set up or if it varies....

Thank you all so much, have been checking some of this out and see I won't have to give up my blogs.

This is typical when they are retiring a product...

It's not even listed under "more" or "even more" any longer. However, if you do a search on the word "reader" it's the first thing that comes up.

I'm in my Reader several times a day, so I pretty much have a tab with it open all the times. Have no idea as yet what I might do come July.

Damn them!
(shakes fist at sky)

This is one of those times I feel like a Klingon. Why do you need a reader for blogs? Can

someone bring me up to the 21st century?

IF you want to follow a blog without having to check for new content....

..... the reader does that for you

Let's say you like to follow 12 food blogs, 12 science-trivia blogs, 4 animal cute photos blogs, 4 photography blogs

You like to keep updated but it's hard to check each one all the time

A Reader lets you know if there is new content you haven't read yet - you can also save it for later or simply delete it from the reader.

Oh, is this like RSS? I've never used that, but was picturing this "reader" as a separate

hardware device, like a Kindle or a Nook. That's what I think of as a "reader."

Similar, but slightly different.... (more)

in the RSS format, you get an email notification every time there's a new post.

I prefer the reader, so I don't get email notification to distract me. This way I go into the reader when I have time to spare.

of course, one can ignore the emails, but having a choice, I prefer the reader.

It's a single site at which you can read ALL the blogs or websites you follow regularly. Mine are

all RSS feeds. Google "Reader" was one of the most popular for a very long time but it's going away for reasons nobody seems to have explained, leaving regular users to scramble for a substitute that looks and behaves similarly and for the same price (free).
