NFR - It's time for a new vacuum cleaner - mine is the worst. Any recommendations?

Meryl - send me your email via PM - I'll send you the CR ratings I just pulled

since one of mine just died. I always go with what they recommend. Do you want upright or canister?

We just got a Dyson Animal and love it! We have an Australian Shepherd and her fur is everywhere..

Because of all the fur, the canister filled up by vacuuming the living room alone. I'll have to empty it twice for the whole house. (I vacuum once a week. I'm sure it would be better if I did it twice a week, but you know how that goes smileys/smile.gif

That's probably why it never loses suction - you gotta keep emptying it out! I love the Dyson just for that clear canister, so you can see how much stuff it's picking up smileys/smile.gif

I have a laminate wood floor in the kitchen, and linoleum in the bathrooms - the floor attachment isn't the greatest - it attaches to the hose, but it takes some effort to keep the retractable hose stretched out.

Otherwise I do love it! It replaced a 10-year old Kenmore canister.

We got the upright, but now I see they have a canister model also. Woulda gotten that if I saw that before we bought it, but I'm sure I'll get used to the upright.

And today's my vacuuming day - supposed to be vacuuming instead of sitting here at the computer!!

I don't know if I should get a canister or upright. What do you think? Am sending you a PM.

This is my first upright - always had a canister before....

Seemed like the canister was easier to propel, so this upright will take some getting used to.

Second the Dyson

We've been through several top-notch vacuums that couldn't measure up to dogs, cats & a parrot that likes to throw her food. This one has been going strong for several years now.

I don't have that model, but I have their upright...

and I hate that beast. Maybe we got a lemon, but I so wish we had gotten a different one. I would even go back to a "bagged" vacuum over the yellow model I have. I have to also say that when it comes to vacuums and coffee makers, I am cursed.

I've owned my same upright heavy duty PROLUX Electrolux for about 15 years.

I lent it to my neighbor and she sucked something up and returned it to me and it wouldn't start. I called customer service and they said hit the reset button on the back! It was fixed, though my neighbor never admitted "breaking" it in the first place.

I highly recommend Oreck - I've had an XL for ~15 years ands love it.

It is an upright, but very lightweight, so it is easy to maneuver.

It uses a bag - I'm not sure if that is a + or - for you.
