since you are like family and there have been posts for help over the years, I decided to risk it. I know Rayetta and she has devoted her life to rescue and her need is great and even greater for the dogs she helps. she has saved the lives of countless hounds. this will run in our local paper next week. her home is salvagable but the kennels are not.

thanks for understanding

Our animal community was devastated to learn about the tragic fire at Homes 4 Hounds south of Waldport during our last storm.

The owner, Rayetta Holder, lost 8 rescued Greyhound dogs and 5 rescued kittens in the fire that also destroyed her home and kennels.

Homes 4 Hounds has done a remarkable job throughout Lincoln County and the State of Oregon rescuing Greyhound dogs from the race track circuit that are often put down after their racing days are over. She works diligently in finding the right forever homes for these dogs and holds many adoption outreach events throughout Oregon.

Rayetta's spirit is admirable in that she wants to pick up and start all over again and keep rescuing these hounds.

We would like to see her get back on her feet as soon as possible.

Because this is the holiday season of giving, we are hoping people will open their hearts and wallets to this organization. With the generous 'kicker' tax refunds coming in the mail, we are hoping you will consider donating a portion of it to Homes 4 Hounds. a 501©3 organization. All donations are tax deductible.

Thank you from the animal community in Lincoln County!

Randi, you did the right thing by posting this. Anyone who loses their home in a fire deserves...

help, and, yes, we have all become like family here at FK, so it was very appropriate that you asked us to help her. From one animal lover to another, I have sent her a donation. She deserves it for two reasons, to help restore her life, and to help the creatures she rescues. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from a small town in Lower Alabama!

Yes, Randi, you did the right thing. Am forwarding this to two animal lovers, one does rescue and

does internet matching of animals to people, especially seniors. It seems younger people want puppies and seniors who lose a pet wish to have a dog who is trained.
Also figuring out a donation from here.
Holiday Hugs to You,
Nan

I LOVE you guys!!! and you know I never shout on the board!

you are life savers - literally!

Rayetta is not a young woman and for her to start over is just a testiment to her dedication to these beautiful dogs.

I will respond to the PM's later. right now, you have me in tears. thank you for caring and helping the ones who can't ask for themselves.

with deep gratitude and love....

I noticed this sad event in your earlier post and planned to ask you about it anyway if you hadn't

followed up.

there will be an investigation as there is something hinky about the caretaker's story.

Rayetta is not a young woman and, in spite of being in the middle of a serious storm, made a six hr round trip to Portland to get donated food for the dogs. it was during the trip that the fire started.

the rescue network here is starting to plan a fund raiser and we're seeing what we can do about new kennels and such. we do have a number of people who will foster animals in need and a couple of "safe" houses if an immediate rescue is necessary.

oh no Marg, it is getting better. there are so many beautiful hearts that are

helping to get the operation back up again. she will probably end up with a bigger and better facility than she lost.

there is no getting around the loss of life and how horrible that was. what's done is done, now it's time to get the rescue operation up and running again so more lives can be saved.

and, (((Marg))) there really are Santa Clauses and Christmas miracles smileys/smile.gif

I've been getting PM's and not only are people here helping but they're passing the info on to their local rescue groups. and the other rescue groups now have contact info for grey hounds that they might not have had before.

Rayetta will be getting help from around the country. this is more than she dreamed of. so darling, something tragic is turning into something filled with wonder and love!

it doesn't get better than the people here. you have all been a gift in my life in so many ways!
