NFR Look at our (finely blooming) Orchid. It's called a Nun Orchid.

We've had this for 5 or 6 years and it has finally bloomed. It's an interesting orchid.

Edited: For those that are interested...not sure the colors really came out clear in this photo. The pointy leafs are a deep rust brown with a purple flower.

Beautiful. I love the color.

For many years my grandparents' hobby was orchids and they had lots both in the house and in greenhouses that they had collected for a long time. They belonged to several orchid societies. One year we had a long spell of exceptionally cold weather and the ones in the greenhouses, despite heaters, did not survive it. Very sad.

Stunning? Any clue about the name? I could guess the pointy leafs are reminiscent of Sr. Batrille's

wimple.

Yep, the last 2 very cold winters have caused trauma for these guys. Evidently

this Nun has enjoyed it though.

Yes Joe, that's a perfect example. It was named Nun because of it's

resemblance to a Nun's cap. Here's a link that tells more about it and it's "real" name. I just call it Nun thank you very much!
