NFR question - reasonably priced hotel in NYC?

My sister wants to spend a few days with me in New York City. Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced hotel? The only time I stayed in the city was for a conference, in the Columbia dorms, so I have no idea. TIA

A coworker uses Airbnb and loves it. She found me a great place in the city for

the city for $110 a night-but then my trip got cancelled, darn!

Try Priceline or Hotwire.Be careful about renting privately. I'm

not sure what has happened with airbnb, but NYC has some stringent laws just passed.

I was just reading Consumer Reports article about travel deals.....

And in the end, they could not get a better deal than the boutique hotel they wound up with through Priceline (they were testing using Chicago). They couldn't even come CLOSE. I have had good luck with Priceline and only a few minor hiccups like one undergoing renovations. I worry more about what I am going to get when I am in small towns where the choice and star range is tighter. There are websites (listed on Consumer Reports) where you can see what people are getting on Priceline - what price, what hotel, etc. that will help you judge. I've also found I can delete cookies and keep bidding (also using different email addresses I have) more than once in 24 hours. Let me know if you want me to send you the article.

Sadly, "reasonably priced" here is "apoplexy-inducing," elsewhere. smileys/frown.gif

We were looking at the Beacon Hotel on the UWS for my parents, for a long-term stay. Wherever you choose, I recommend running the address of the location through the Bedbug Registry (linked).

Before you research them, get a list of "hotels in NYC with bedbugs" and eliminate those when you...

choose. NYC is notorious for this and you just don't want this-
believe me.

My sister was just telling me about this last nite. I understand it is going to be a once in a life

time event. You should go. Just check the hotel lists.

Thank you all so much for all this information!

The prices are almost as scary as the bedbugs! We'll see what we can get.

Marilyn, so we need to have an Eat.at meet-up

when you are in NYC? I am craving a city visit, but might put it off if we can gather the city folk (Erin and Sandra) and anyone else in the area who is willing...
