NFR rant: Have finally subscribed to NYTimes...boy, was that confusing.

I finally got fed up not being able to read whole articles and decided to pay the subscription fee as the banner said it was only $1 a week for basic coverage and I wondered why I had been so cheap. So I signed up and then when they thanked me, posted a new page saying I could have complete coverage including recipes for only $14 a week.

Damn. I thought I WAS getting the recipes for $1 / week. Oh well, I wasn't about to spend $728 a year just to read recipes.

Then I got another email from nytimes saying I could have the recipes for $1.25 a week or $40 a year.

Well, WHY didn't they say that in the first place?

So I signed up for that too and I'm still not sure WHAT I won't be getting for that amount, but at least I'll get to finish reading articles and recipes.

PS: This is after I signed up for a FULL YEAR of Internet access from Mom's home. Her local internet carrier is no longer offering weekly and monthly options because its giving free access (albeit at a slow rate) so I opted to just buy the home package.

You would have gotten the recipes as they are posted each day. You have signed up now

(maybe) for the expanded Recipe Box which is an expanded feature.
That rate is a special right now--The Washington Post did it a couple of months ago and I signed up for that then.

No, you only get some of the recipes unless you pay the extra $1.25

I have the teacher's discount offer for about $10 per month, which originally gave me complete access to recipes, then they suddenly cut that off. Someone on this forum explained the trick of clicking on the little book symbol on Firefox, and that usually opens the hidden recipe for me, in a very plain format. Hope NYT isn't reading this.

So very sorry that this happened to you, Marilyn

I still have not subscribed and will wait until things have calmed down. Colleen
