NFR: SoCal folks...is it worth the drive to the LA Flower Mart for flowers?

Depends on what you're doing and how many you need. I was just there last Thursday

My sis and I needed $1500 worth for a wedding so, yeah, definitely worth it. You can also get all the supplies next door at Floral Syndicate - vases, wire, oasis, etc.

They open 6am and begin packing up about 10:30. Park on the roof for cheapest parking.

Just need some flowers for chapel/home -- was thinking of gifting rosemary plants

I don't know where I could get small pots of them to use like favors for guests. Would they have garden plants like this too? Rosemary is for remembrance and I thought it might be different than seed packs of Forget Me Nots. (Double meaning given dementia.)

For flowers, enough to make 2 large vases of yellow roses (for Texas) with white flowers/greener/or whatever -- I haven't seen the location yet.

I've never been, but for the smaller order you describe, I doubt it would be worth the drive and

parking. Armstrong Nursery on 10th St., or H&H nursery on Lakewood Blvd., should have rosemary plants. If you called ahead they might be able to order them for you if you needed a lot.

Maria, you have some very meaningful and creative ideas going on there

I wanted to share what was done for my husbands brother's funeral. He passed away around this time of year, and all the flowering trees in the neighborhood were in bloom. His daughters went to specific houses and asked if they could cut some of the flowering branches. They gathered enough of those beautiful branches to make some very eye catching arrangements, which were put together from other stuff gathered from their own yard. Not only were the flowers lovely but it was all free!

Cheezz, Did you see if they have disabled parking? Also...

I don't walk so good these days, so have a placard.

Do you need to bring your own cart? (you do in SF and I didn't know -- turns out I swiped one from a vendor)

On Yelp it looks like some will do the arrangements for you??? Did you see any of that?

Also, do you have a favorite place or did you just walk around and pick what looks good? (Because I saw you can pre-order from vendors.)

You rent a cart from the 2nd floor indoor parking. Keep in mind, these are big industrial carts

and can be unwieldy. Bigger than you need. I think some do arrange for you, but then you'd be better off getting flowers from Costco - theirs are very fresh.

We like Mayesh Florist and yes, you can pre-order in quantity. It's a lot of walking around to do. I think I would check out Joe's ideas first.

Thanks. I've been to the SF mart so I have an idea what it's like. Not sure if we'll go

but wanted to be forearmed. Thanks for the info on a florist. I may pre-order from them. Don't know if you can pre-order from Costco for in store pick-up, but when checking online the funeral flowers seemed no cheaper than a florist.

Thank you all!
