She is awake and doing as well as can be expected. She's had two surgeries - one to fuse her spine and insert a steel rod and then another minor one yesterday. They do feel she will be paralyzed from the waist down.
The thing that really gets you is that she threw her body over her two sons to protect them and the tornado hit and debris hit her on the back causing the damage. The 6 year old was hurt but is out of the hospital and told the press that he feels bad his mom got hurt protecting them.
So here is the deal, they are collecting money to help rebuilt and cover expenses that insurance won't cover (and we all know how insurance companies can be), the city had a fund already set up for our emergency workers and their immediate families and contributions can be made there. But what they REALLY want to do is get Extreme Home Makeovers to come here and help re-build the house since it's going to require special accomodations for her. I'll try to get the exact details of what you all might can do but they want to make a BIG presence to the show to help get attention and get their help.
