NFR: What would be your vacuum cleaner of choice if you were shopping for one?

We own a Electrolux cleaner that needs a new motor - $400. We could buy another Electrolux, now owned by Aerus, but we might be able to buy a better vacuum cleaner and not stick with the Electrolux brand necessarily. Not too happy having to throw away the extra bags and filters.

Just wanted to know if people are familar with the different brands out there and their opinions?

We get consumer reports and they have their list, should I just bite the bullet, pull the trigger and get their number 1 recommended?

SHARK ALL THE WAY!

Got my first about 6 years ago, got a second model two years ago

if I was not happily married, I would marry the first one and take the second one as a lover

the second model has some advantages to clean under beds and furniture so it complements well number 1

Bissell CleanView

Newly purchased - have had for several months and am very pleased, so far. We have a small house, all hardwood/tile, no pets or kids, shoes off at the door. Needed new beater vac for large room rugs. Excellent suction. No bag. 1 washable and 1 replaceable filter. We run it successfully from room to room on hardwood and tile as well as the rugs. Love to use the on-board attachments and wand - the small beater wand attachment is especially great for behind and tight places as well as furniture. 15.5 lbs and sturdy. Lots of great reviews helped me choose this vac over Shark at much, much lower price.

Purchased with 30% off code ($90-27=$63) plus $10 Kohl's cash (over $50).

Also bought a spare filter package w/30% code to swap out in several months from now.

And with Kohl's, if you're not happy in a month or 6 months, you can take it back! Colleen

I have a Shark from WalMart--cordless. Cost $100 and I love it, but we are in a

retirement cottage so it doesn't get constant use. I DO love the cordless aspect.
DD loves their Dyson.

Definitely a Shark

I had a Dyson and I absolutely hated it. It hurt my wrist to use and was heavy and clunky and kept falling over. I recently got the Shark Lift Away that can be used as a canister, upright or lift-away mode for stairs, etc. I absolutely LOVE it! I got it at Costco and it's currently $50 off the regular price.

Another Shark fan here! It even picks up crumbs well from kitchen floor (there, I made it FRC). smileys/smile.gif

I just bought a Shark because everyone raved about it so much.

I hate it. I have two dogs with long hair and their hair gets wound around the roller. Every time I use it, it takes me at least 5-10 minutes pulling hair off the rollers. I wish I had never bought it.
