NFRC: Ang...do you know where the northern lights are best viewed there?

Fairbanks is where they have a research center to study them. but we see them here, too, really

anywhere in the state. but the further north and remote, the best viewing. Fairbanks in winter can get -50. just sayin'.

We are making plans to be there next September, mid-month. The cruise ends in Whittier

And we want to go up to Denali either on our own or thru the ship. Trying to decide what warrants the most time and where to stay, but northern lights would be very top of the list if possible. Thanks!

Cheezz, are you leaving out of Bellingham?

We have had several friends that have done Alaskan cruises... most have had a wonderful time! However, one pair came home last week very disappointed. I don't think they did enough research ahead of time to know what was included in their fare and what was considered "all-inclusive" and what wasn't.

Hope you have a wonderful time, and if you want any second-hand info, let me know. Ha! smileys/smile.gif

Denali season ends about now, so be careful about lodging possibilities. Alyeska resort is lovely

And they will wake you for northern lights if you ask. 1 hour drive outside of Anchorage and very near Whittier and lots of hiking. Too early for skiing. Lovely restaurant on top of mtn---by tram. Denali can also be very iffy if it's cloudy. Can't see mountain or anything.

It would be a Sep 6 or 10 departure from Vancouver. We've just begun planning smileys/smile.gif

That would be so lovely!! I know it's a year out, but will let you know when plans are finalized.

I know Anchorage is the 'big city' and we are going for the wilderness experience, but is there a "must see" there?
