NFRC: Anybody in the Seattle area? I may be moving there soon....(more)

and I was wondering if anybody could give me

a general idea of what are (and are not) the

more pleasant areas of Seattle.

For instance, here in the Phoenix area,

Tempe is nice, Scottsdale is nicer, but

stay away from Van Buren Avenue.

In Detroit (where I grew up), Birmingham

is nice, Bloomfield Hills is nicer, but

stay away from 8 Mile.

Any hints on Seattle?

Thank you very much.

I live quite North of Seattle (near the Canadian border) but I know>>>

that West Seattle is nice. Bellevue is considered very nice. Mercer Island is VERY nice. Someone who lives closer to the city may be more help here... I unfortunately don't know much about the not-so-nice areas.

We visit Seattle quite often because boyfriend's family lives there. It might help folks to know

what types of "amenities" you consider a priority. When I lived in Atlanta, living in the hub bub of downtown was important to me, while MOST folks thought I was nuts and preferred the McMansions of the suburbs outside the city. Seattle is like that too. Are you looking for something more urban, where you can walk to stuff? Do you prefer a golf/tennis type community? Will good schools play a role in your selection?

I know the area has several Trader Joe's AND Central Market plus loads or wonderful asian markets. You certainly won't be at a loss for ingredients or wonderful restaurants. I think it's a great place to live! Good Luck with the move!

I'd like a nice place to rollerblade without having to worry about being mugged. That's about it.

Boyfriend's parents live in Mill Creek - sort of lots of subdivisions in one BIG subdivision. Lots

of wonderful winding hilly sidewalks. When we visit I love to take long strolls.
