A friend of mine, and mom of two lovely girls, has just moved there from Missouri. She's a wonderful writer (and all-around wonderful person), and I know how hard it is to get settled somewhere new...so I'm just scouting around to see if any of us are there. smileys/smile.gif Thanks!

I don't live there, however I can offer a few suggestions...

If she belongs to a church, she can speak to the church leader and ask that she be introduced to the members during the next service. Many have social get togethers after the service, she could attend those. Children make friends quickly, and when they do, you soon meet the parents.

She could volunteer at school/hospital/City Hall for a few hours a week.

The kids will get involved at school and make friends....she needs to make sure she offers to help with plays, fund raising or whatever the group needs.

Get to know her neighbors. If they don't come to greet, she should, with cookies in hand.

Many cities have Newcomer's Clubs.....contact them.

I'm in the next county north of her, Volusia. What age are the girls?

I have coworkers who live there (and work in Orlando). They LOVE their school system.

Brevard hosts Kennedy Space Center and part of Canaveral National Seashores...and of course, Ron Jon's surf shop.

If she wants to drive north, we have a beautiful lighthouse that you can climb (linked).

I think the girls are 10 and 12, maybe, though they're home-schooled, as far as I know.

Thanks for the info, Marilyn; if you're on Facebook, maybe I can put her in touch with you. (Or if you hate FB, I can give you her email, perhaps, or vice versa.) smileys/smile.gif

I've never been into FB...but I can PM you

my work email, where it's actually easier to reach me at than the home one.

We don't have kids, so I'll be useless for that aspect, but I'll try to help in any way I can.
