NFRC but need to vent-my hours at work have been cut in half

I'm so TIRED of having to reinvent myself. Why can't they just leave me alone for another 3 1/2 years until my house is paid off? I'm working in a law office now because of the over-and-over layoffs in my former financial services/software field. I think I'm going to hyperventilate. I don't think I'm even capable of crying anymore.

((Melissa)) If misery loves company, I'm right there with you.

I went to grad school for engineering and here I sit overqualified for what I used to do (chem) and out of a job for the engineering (

Chin up, things have got to get better soon.

I'm still looking for a job down here in Florida since I moved here seven months ago...

I have an interview for a travel agent job tomorrow morning. Goodness knows the competition and I was a travel agent for six years! I've been on several interviews but with no success. I'm a jack of all trades but of course I've picked the worst time of all to look for a job since I moved down here to be a caregiver to my Dad. I could have gotten a one-year contract job back up north while I've been down here. I nixed it because of my decision/"responsibility."

Welcome to the club Melissa. You're not alone unfortunately. This is the worst recession in 25 years but you have to hang in there and keep your chin up. I'm doing everything short of applying to a fast-food chain...

Good luck!

Yeah, I'm down to one day a week - 6.5 hours. I SHOULD be getting a head start on Christmas gifts!

((Melissa)) sorry to hear about it. Was there earlier this year for the first time in my life

I was lucky in that a former client wanted me back and convinced my previous employer to hire me back so they could contract for me. And they got enough funding that I should be safe for at least 3-5 years and if so, that will mean we can get our daughter through college hopefully before any more job woes.

Got this in an email yesterday....Patriotic Retirement Plan

If only this would be done with out taking away their retirement packages...........but it would have to be tax free or the government would get it right back.

This is from an article in the St. Petersburg , FL Times Newspaper on Sunday.
The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?"
I think this guy nailed it!
Dear Mr. President:
Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy.
Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.
You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:
There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force.
Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:
1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings -
Unemployment fixed.
2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered-
Auto Industry fixed.
3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage-
Housing Crisis fixed.
It can't get any easier than that!

Melissa, I understand!

Have you thought about doing consulting work on the side (i.e., in financial services/software)?

(I've been looking for a job for a year now (well, a year next Tuesday). In the meantime, I'm not really sure what I've accomplished.)

Take care!
