NFRC - Dear board friends - I had already told Michael about this

Well-known member
but got a short "reprieve". I am having surgery Thursday for probable and very large ovarian cancer. I have not been in any pain but have been uncomfortable because I have been having large amounts of fluid build up in my belly that I have been having to go have "tapped". Was in the hospital for a week at the first of the month and was very indignant when for the first three days they were telling me I had cirrhosis with no risk factors, normal labs and an abdominal ultrasound a month prior that was essentially normal. Only when they did a liver biopsy and it was clean did they send me for CT scans of both my abdomen AND pelvis. I am actually thrilled to be going to surgery if it will stop the ascites build-up in my tummy. Just wanted you all to know where I was if I wasn't around for a while. I'll be staying with my folks for a little while after I get out of the hospital. I'm busily filling my freezer so that I can convince them that I can feed myself and they won't have to hold me hostage any longer than necessary.smileys/smile.gif My cousin has taken my dog to take care of and he is playing with other Belgians at her house. He was scared the first several days I was in the hospital and strange people were coming in his house letting him in and out. I have not brought him home because I'm just not up to all the up and down and in and out right now. I'll be around until Thursday. Hope I don't miss too much in my absence!

Oh, Melissa! Wouldn't you think that the diagnostic phase should be a little more ordered

to get to the root of the problem without having to go through all this!!! (welcome to the world of national health care).

I will keep you in my prayers that the procedure is quick and that they send you home in top shape in the least amount of time!

Biggest of TEXAS HUGS!!

You would. Actually, I had been going and getting labs and tests

since mid-December and my GP was clueless too. He wanted to think liver/gallbladder too. Wasn't until he sent me through the ER as a referral to a different medical group to get a paracentesis that they took one look at me and said "oh, no...you are being admitted because that is WAY too much fluid on that belly and we need to figure out why". By that evening they were talking liver transplants and the fact that I had no insurance! Scared the hell out of my poor parents. At least there is a chance of cutting on this...

I'd better be. Only time I've gotten upset is when my mom mentioned something about

me staying with them for SIX WEEKS. I told them I WAS NOT going to be away from my house for that long.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this Melissa. Just know we're all

sending you lots of strength and hugs. Soon this will be over and you'll be back to normal. Best wishes and can't wait for you to be back!

Ha! Just let that good strong sense of humor help you through this!!!!

And you know this will probably require some glamor photos. ;0)

Melissa, sending hugs your way. A friend of mine had a tumor removed --the size of a grapefruit.

Like you, somehow the doctor's missed it. But she had it removed and is fine now. Surgeons opt for the most non-invasive route these days. While you'll probably be tender, I'm sure you'll heal *very* quickly!

Melissa, I'm sending all good, healing thoughts and lots of love to you. Here's to a quick recovery.

Hang in there Melissa. I just know you're a very strong lady; You're going to be fine.

I know what it feels like, three years ago I was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer. I'm still here and doing fine. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
