Oh, and Anna_X - when I mentioned an American who died she said "oh, that was Dan"

Apparently he is very well known in her circle. She is an avid skiier/ mountain climber and was really saddened by this loss.

Oh, my goodness! Bless her generous and loving heart for helping Nepal

The circles that she and Dan are in seem to work like Venn diagrams. It is a small world.

Well done, Daughter! I couldn't even get my coworkers to donate desserts for Toys for Tots.

I was going to try wig's idea of a dessert sale...fill a table with donated desserts made by coworkers and then pay $10 to get four desserts to try. I could have made a few desserts myself but I wanted this to be a team donation...and we could have raised a lot more money that way.

I'm not even going to tell you how many of these guys said:
"You mean I have to DONATE a dessert and then still BUY a ticket to get some?"

This is after THREE YEARS of giving these guys free desserts practically every week.

So I took my change jar (with $147.18) that I was going to buy ingredients with for my own dessert contributions and donated it directly to Toys for Tots.

They got the money.
I tempered my frustration.
My coworkers lost out on handmade cream puffs with pastry cream and chocolate sauce.

While I agree it seems easy enough to donate cookies in this case, cash is often MUCH more

productive for efforts like these natural disasters. Often the money can be used to buy IN the country and help the economy and it can often be used by the agencies to buy at huge discounts from suppliers they can access.

How did the event go? If I recall, it was last Wed. Your daughter clearly has a compassionate

heart. I hope it was a success!!!
