NFRC: I watched the movie 9 To 5 last weekend and was amazed that not one desk had a computer

Well-known member
terminal in that sea of desks. Not even the boss had a computer. this movie was released in 1980---how times have changed! How did we do our work?? did we really type out invoices and bills and checks and keep ledgers and paper files in 1980??

Last weekend we watched Home Alone 2

and it was eery to watch MacCully (sp?) Culkin on the Twin Towers. The little kids didn't get it, but for me, it was not good.

I just watched that too...a few months ago (got to keep that Netflix queue going). I loved

how everyone streamed out at exactly 5:00 pm.

and oh those neck scarves, LOL! but no computers---mind boggling to me. I've seen this movie a

billion times, but it never hit me before. I must be working too hard, and more than 9 to 5.

I used to work in a hospital transcription department. Those girls told stories about multiple page

reports with 4 copies each...carbon copy and all. Due to the multiple copies, any error they made required "white out" in 4 colors. Yikes!

I remember a person could smoke at their desks and onion skin paper sheets for important documents

and all the ink on a person's fingers after using the carbon papers for duplicates

Remember the eraser pencils with the fan shaped brush to erase boo boos from the carbons?

in 1986 I had to talk my boss into letting me buy a computer, because I was such a lousy typist she agreed! LOL

I remember working the switchboard at school - you put in the plug to connect people....

Seemed at least once a day I pulled the plug out and disconnected someone. Oh... accidentally of course smileys/smile.gif
