On a whim heading back from CA I decided to take a detour to see Crater Lake, and on the advice of a ranger I took Hwy 138 as I headed back to I5 to continue N. to home. It was amazing and breathtaking. The gorgeous Umpqua River runs alongside the hwy, and you're surrounded by dense forest full of blooming dogwoods, rhododendrons and wildflowers. The many waterfalls are all crashing at peak flow. I guess everyone else was back to work and school after the Memorial Day weekend because mine was nearly the only car on the road which was kind of wonderful and kind of Twilight Zone (especially since I was traveling alone).

Anyway, I just wanted to share in case any of you are ever out this way. I just hope heaven is this beautiful.
