My big project for the last year has been readying for publication a friend's travel memoir about her time in Estonia and the Baltic region on a cultural-exchange trip in the late '90s--it's a thoughtful chronicle of characters and daily life with host families, told with an expat's sense of longing for what was familiar to her as a university student from small-town Colorado.
It's been available at Amazon for a couple weeks in paperback, and is now up in Kindle format. At the moment, the book's Amazon page is woefully lacking in reviews, and I'd like to ask those of you interested in travel-related nonfiction if you'd be willing to read (or skim, or sample--whatever you have time for) the book in the next two weeks and leave a brief review. Activity on the book's page helps boost the book's rankings and, ultimately, sales. smileys/smile.gif
Here are the details:
1. You do not need to buy the book. I'll email you a PDF of it.
2. You do not need to read the entire book, even. smileys/wink.gif It can be dipped into, skimmed, and sampled--you'll still get a flavor of the characters and stories. If you have a spare 30 minutes or hour to set aside to page through it, that's fine!
3. You don't need to write more than 4-5 sentences of reflection about the book. (But you're welcome to add more, if you like.) Just something detailed--something you took away from it; something you enjoyed; something you think the writer does well; parts you really liked. (If, after sampling it, you feel you can't review it, just let me know--no questions asked. But I hope you enjoy it.) smileys/wink.gif
4. The review, if you're willing to write one, can be added here: Amazon page for Once Around the Room: Discovering Estonia. (If you like the book and want to "Like" it on that page, that would be great, too!)
5. You are welcome to note in your review that you were given a review copy of the book by the publisher.
6. For what it's worth, if you're interested in Eastern European food, the book sketches dishes, snacks, and tastes common in Estonian homes--probably along the lines of what you think the cuisine is, but with a few surprises. smileys/wink.gif
If you think you have time for this, please let me know! I would appreciate it immensely, as the publisher, though I know it's nearly an impossible favor to ask with the school year starting back up.
(You can also email me off-list at slatterye at gmail dot com.)
Many thanks,
Erin
