NFRC: Stolen gas can. A co-worker was resting after cutting the grass and left his gas can in

front of his garage. The family watched as a car pulled up and the driver ran up to the house and stole the gas can. They got the license plate number and reported it to police, but of course, it's too minor an incident for them to be bothered. I have a feeling that more of this type of petty crime will happen with the gas prices so high.

I read an article about people stealing and switching plates, filling up at a

gas station and driving off.
More of this type of theft also.

I don't know of any gas stations in Phoenix that don't make you pre-pay for gas.

Either you have to use a card at the pump, or pay the attendant in cash. Then you pump the gas and the attendant sets the pump to stop automatically, so you don't get one drop more than you pay for.

Evidently this is not the case in other areas.

For Fathers Day I got hubby a locking gas cap for the truck

The guy at Napa said "are you sure you want to do this? They are drilling holes in the gas tanks or cutting lines to get gas if they can't syphon."

Sure enough, a local paper had a front page story on just that the next day.

our stations are like this too. probably why the stealing is going up. somehow, that stolen gas

can just bugs the heck out of me. such a small thing, but geez.

Here it started with heating oil a few months ago, a house with a tank out of veiw from the street

or neighbors--pickup with tank in back, pull up and help themselves.

Now lots of tanks missing from skiffs around the harbor and siphoning from vehicles too.

really sucks, where I park sort of hidden, hope I'm lucky!

heard of one guy who had his stolen several times, left a full gas can in the back of his pickup with a bunch of sugar mixed in--whoa bad surprise for someone!

The last time we had a gas crisis in our country I was working at the police dept. Food was also

stolen during that time...from people's freezers that were on a porch, or somewhere outside the main house. Beware, I wouldn't surprised if food starts being stolen again.

that reminds me of one year here, people were taking hanging deer from carports, lazy poachers?

At only 47 years of age, I can recall service station attendants that popped...

...the hood, checked the oil (and any other fluids they could sell) and the wiper blades.

They pumped the gas and took your cash (or "charge card" as we used to call them), and returned with your change or whatever.

Plus, you got to purchase some really tacky glassware, if you wanted, and then on to the grocery store to earn S & H greenstamps.

Oh, and they put that "76" styrofoam ball on your antenna. So neighborhood kids could break the darn thing grabbing the ball.

Woo hoo!

I moved to a town where you can pay for almost anything with a check...

and if you can't they post a sign saying so. And the grocery stores take your groceries out for you and load them in your car. I am not sure about gas stations, because I always use my ATM card.

This is a hard time for minimum wage workers.

The pawn shops are starting to turn folks away, no one is buying what folks are selling. I see more garage sales than is the norm for June in the desert. (Our season ends in mid may because of the heat.)

We live in an area where most everything is a minimum 20 mile trip, although we did get a "corner store" recently (it's actually a half mile up the highway and offers some amazing produce and deli sandwiches).

On a recent trip to Home Depot the young man assisting me was telling me he has to work odd jobs in the neighborhood to earn gas money to get to his real job at HD. He wasn't sure how long he could keep it up.

Frankly, I'm getting very, very nervous. No one has a realistic answer and yesterday gas was $4.53 for the cheap stuff. The grocery bill goes up every trip.

Gas stealing will continue to get worse until something gives.

Truck stops are being hit...

Their tanks are being drilled and drained while they're out of their rigs...diesel has gotten horrendously high...

Talk about stealing food... it's certainly not tolerated in some countries... off with your

(whatever)! Human survival at best and worst!

Just one of the perks of living in rural, small town, Missouri! smileys/smile.gif

I know tons of people who never lock their houses or cars!

In SW Missouri everyone waves as you pass on the road. Even from their yards as you drive by. Whether you know them or not.

Is it like this up north, Dawn? I assume it is. I like small town life. Especially after living in Dallas/Ft Worth and the Southern CA areas. It was truly Heaven to move back.

Did I say I love Missouri? smileys/smile.gif

It's GREEN, too! Last summer on Google Earth there was one big green spot in the middle of the USA from space. It was Missouri!

Home Sweet Home. smileys/smile.gif

The downside is the lack of shopping! Ugh!
