LOL!! Dawn, I just watched the English version tonight that ended at 11:00 and thoroughly enjoyed
it as I have many, many times before.
What a great classic. I'm a sap as usual. I sobbed and smiled and sobbed.... Great movie indeed!
Back in Philly, I used to walk Woofus around my hilly wooded apartment complex and whenever he started to climb some little hills, well I ah' (Jimmy Stewart dub here) used to sing "Climb every mountain.... - - - " Sick, huh?

Love it. Right up there with Lawrence of Arabia, which came out around the same time.
Different mountains to climb, but just as inspiring.
I, too, get all misty when Georg comes back in the house after dressing down Maria and hears the kids singing for the Baroness. Oy. Then he joins them. My, oh my.
I regale the family with my best little girl voice when the kids are talking about being hungry (after their Dad says they can't have dinner 'cause they've eaten so many berries). At the appropriate moment, when the littlest one (Gretl?) says she's hungry, I add (in falsetto), "I want a carne asada burrito!" Hilarity often ensues.
Love it.
