NFRC: Wow, so Facebook tracks you even when you aren't a member??

From the USAToday article:

Facebook officials are now acknowledging that the social media giant has been able to create a running log of the web pages that each of its 800 million or so members has visited during the previous 90 days. Facebook also keeps close track of where millions more non-members of the social network go on the Web, after they visit a Facebook web page for any reason.

So...since I clicked on the Nestle's contest page hooked to Facebook, they now have me in their system.

It is really creepy...

every time I access facebook, they throw ads at me for dachshund cups, tshirts, and other junk. I don't belong to any dachshund sites, I've only mentioned it in posts here and on FB.

Creepy.

When you post pics of the supercute furries...

And you tag them as dachsunds the stage is set for the ads to pop up...

The technology for "following" you from webpage to webpage is older than dirt -

Even back when we were all in Gail's Recipe Swap in the '90's, the owners of the forum could see where your next click was, it's a marketer's dream, and it was all well before Facebook.

Facebook is no more public than this website or even your own personal email.

Think of the internet as a WHOLE as a postcard you put through the mail - everything you write, even in password protected sites, is easily found.
