NFRQ Did anyone else notice a dramatic decrease in neighborhood Christmas decorations this year?

There were only 3 of us on the block (of 14 houses) that had any, and those were minimal. And 2 more had trees that showed through the windows so you could see lights on those - but I wouldn't really call those outside lights. What happened?

 
Yes, My sister's neighborhood is known for its decorations, to the point that it becomes a traffic

jam as locals drive through in the evening. We always take a stroll after Christmas dinner to see elaborate displays with moving parts. Folks sit in their front yards around fires to wish Merry Christmas to the passers by. This year there was not much to look at.

As an environmentalist I should be glad the energy is being saved but it made me sad.

And by the way, I wish I could warm up the new LED lights which really save energy, but they're so cold!

 
We bought all new LED lights and are really happy with them. The

colors are beautiful and much brighter than we expected. We're very pleased with them. Cost much less to use and good for the environment. Win!

 
Oh some of them I've seen are very pretty - I was talking more about the lightbulbs

I love the light blue ones, and there is a green wreath near here - all just LED lights - that's gorgeous. My favorite decoration I've seen this year. :eek:)

 
I think people are just scared and depressed...

We hardly did anything this year. I was talking to my Russian housekeeper, who is very observant, who said (in her wonderful accent):

Last year? Many many presents and decorations.

This year? Not so very many.

 
Orchid, I like the jewel tones of the colored ones. It's the "white" ones (more gun-metal grey) that

kill it for me. Nothing like the warm yellow glow of incandescence. I hope they can evolve a little.

But you're right--they use so much less energy and in fact incandescent lights will be unavailable in California by 2012. It's the right thing for the environment, if not my sentiments.
