Nice article on Sarah Leah Chase in Edible Cape Cod

I looked the book up on Amazon and read the reviews. I got a kick out of the names she gives the

recipes. Some made comments about the book not having an index. This would make it so difficult to find a recipe again in the book that you want to make. Sometimes I recall a great recipe but not the book it was in, so i search the indexes and that makes it so much easier. I think that may be drawback for many folks who are deciding to buy or not.

If you mean the New England Open-House Cookbook, the hard copy has an index. See the "look inside"

feature, you can see the index.

It does not have an index for the individual recipes as I understand it. The index I saw

was for Chapters.

I just used my 80s vintage Betty Crocker cookbook to look up a coffee cake recipe -

which I know is in there because I use it several times a year. I always have to look in the index, which makes a circular cross-reference of "coffee cake" with "sweet rolls" and lists no recipe under either one, and then after flipping back and forth I remember I actually have to look at "sour cream" to find the coffee cake recipes. You would think after a few times of this I would remember, but nooooo...

I just stuck a post-it note there so maybe next time it will save me a few minutes. smileys/bigsmile.gif
