Nice comparison between mixers, Breville x KA

I chatted with the Breville customer service agent. They only offer a 5 quart. I hoped for a 6qt.

She said she would pass on my request to Corporate.

I'm guessing I'm not the only one who cooks larger batches for family, holidays, etc.

Very interesting, I have a K5-A that predates the change in 1976. The recipes that came with it call

for using the dough hook on the 2 setting. I don't remember there being a problem with kneading at that speed. My mixer is exactly like the photo of the white KA on her site, third photo down from the top. Hobart is on the silver strip, back left side.

When I got my 6 quart (Professional 600) KA a few years ago, it only took me one batch of bread...

...to break it. It overheated and oil oozed out around the spindle and dripped into the dough. I took it back to Macy's and they exchanged it.

So far, this one is holding up.

I have noticed that with the spiral dough hook, it takes at least 1/3 more kneading time to properly knead the dough.

Ugh. If Breville makes a 6 quart, I'm giving it a try.
