Nice Trader Joe's Moment: I was shopping there yesterday. It was very busy...

...which is to be expected at Christmas. It was warm in Phoenix so I wore my standard-issue shorts and a tropical print T-shirt.

I love tropical print T-shirts. So do the powers-that-be at TJ's, as their employees wear them too. When I'm in the store wearing one, I often get asked questions by shoppers, as they mistake me for an employee. I help them out, since I know the store so well...

I went to check out yesterday and encountered a smiling cashier who cheerfully added up my order. She gave me the total and I began scanning my card. I joked that I should get a discount because of all the customers I help when I wear "this shirt". She laughed out loud and said, "really?" I told her it happens a lot and I'm glad to help, even giving recipe suggestions at times.

She got the biggest kick out of that. Grinning, she said, "do you like shortbread?" "Sure", said I.

She grabbed a big tin of shortbread from the display at the front of her register and placed it in my TJ's sack. "Merry Christmas!", she said.

I love it!

Even though you hurt my feelings...

.....very deeply with the "It's warm in Phoenix" and "I wore shorts and t-shirt", I shall say this was pretty cool, and you deserve all the pampering you can get!

Great story--and I love that a company empowers their people to do good things in the store without

having to ask the store manager! Cool!
Happy Holidays Michael!

Maybe the store does empower their employees to do things like that, but my guess is

that she was feeling the Christmas spirit and did it herself and will pay the store out of her pocket. Either way, it was a win-win. Merry Christmas Michael!

I have had the same experience when I wear my Hawaiian shirt! No shortbread yet, though.
