Not looking for pros/cons/debate, but interested if anyone is doing Bittman's "Vegan Before 6."

I'm not doing it, but I read a bit about it and I think it is a great idea.

The reason I don't follow it is I love eggs too much, and have found it difficult to live without them.

I tried to do vegan with my nephew while he was visiting us a few summers ago. I had a difficult time w/out eggs, and skipping the half-and-half in my coffee and cream in my tea.

I like Bittman's approach because of the flexibility. I've found, for me, that general approach yields the most success, and is easier to maintain the results over time.

Lisa, have you tried almond milk in your coffee or tea? I find it's a great

substitute and really can tell very little difference, if any. We've even been using it in the morning for lattes. Trader Joes is where I've been getting mine...like both the unsweetened as well as the sweetened.

Hey thanks. I often use almond milk and coconut water in morning green smoothies, so

this sounds perfect, I'll give it a try.

Sorry to hijack your thread, Erin. Pat - I have tried those, I do like them on cereal

and in smoothies, but they don't have the same mouth feel as dairy in my coffee or tea.

I do love Trader Joe's Soy Creamer in my tea, I have actually switched over to that from dairy as I like the flavor combo better. DH and I brew a pot of British Black Tea nearly every late afternoon, and the TJ Soy Creamer is so good with that.

I don't like soy or almond milk with coffee - there is something about the two flavors that don't play nicely in my mouth for some reason. smileys/bigsmile.gif

Seriously considering it.....

I went to a lecture he gave at a local college back right after he wrote Food Matters which was when he started this. It sounds like a great concept and fairly solid. I haven't bought the book yet but from what I see and know from the Food Matters and his articles, I really think it works. I just hate the idea of limiting myself. This is the only diet that has balance - you can eat ANYTHING after 6pm. Other diets say no carbs, or no meat, or no grains, or no this and that. This one doesn't. I have mixed feelings about diets - I've never seen a one size fits all. I have signed up for diet plans and they say they 'customize' them for you - bull, it's still based on NO something. It's never balanced. Doesn't take into considerations your likes or dislikes, your health issues such as diabetes or arthritis or..... I am considering finishing getting a Bachelors degree and doing it in Nutrition or similar field to combine the culinary with sound knowledge and then 'retire' to do true customizable 'diet' plans that maximize food as a medicine but with flavor.
