Not really a weekend six, but made my traditional "number" cookies for my niece's birthday

Mom started this way back, not when I was real little, but when I was a bit older. I've since carried on the tradition to nieces/nephews and now grand nieces/nephews. That's mom's copper rolling pin Dad gave her one year for xmas in the '60's ...wish we still had her wood one.

This was for my 2 yro niece's party we had on Saturday...

Nicely done! Happy 2nd to your niece!

Very cool that you have your mom's tools that she used in the kitchen.

Thanks all! Sugar cookies were a big deal growing up...

We had contests between us when decoration, so lots of attention to detail were the norm. We also had them at several holidays through the year, so it wasn't just Christmas.

These I didn't bother to drag out the piping bag for the dragonflies, instead I cheated by using some of my food safe paint brushes. Not very exacting painting with icing, but gets the job more or less done.

I still use all the cutters we had growing up, and in the bag a couple of years ago I found a note from mom "The day will come when you have to make the sugar cookies. ♥ I love you, Mom"

And of course it has...makes me tear up every time. The note still lives in that bag with the cutters as a reminder.

Very touching, Maria. I also treasure the notes written in the margins and back covers...

...of the handful of cookbooks my Mom used.

Her handwriting is often a mixture of our common alphabet and German script from her childhood. It is very distinct and easy to recognize as hers.

I know how you feel!

Michael
