Note to self - stop buying dried beans at the local Walmart

I really enjoyed the pumpkin black bean soup even though a fair percentage of the beans never got fully soft. I've had the same problem with dried limas purchased locally.

I've learned that lesson too--packaged dried beans don't have a really long shelf life.

I buy them in bulk from busy high-end stores like Whole Foods. They're still only a buck or two (or three) a pound and they're much fresher.

I see up above you are planning to check out Hispanic markets for beef--here in CA their bulk beans

are fresh and cheap! Probably not limas, but black beans, pintos, garbanzos and lots of others I can't pronounce.
