Now they're warning against fresh spinach too...not just in the bag.

It's funny, no one has mentioned frozen spinach. I bought mine a few weeks ago, but .....????

I wonder why?! I would think canned would be ok... all that processing.

P.S. Raw spinach ALWAYS gave me stomach cramps. 'Don't know why, but it does.

Darn, and I was going to have a spinach salad with mushrooms and unrefrigerated carrot juice! lol

Someone on this morning's news discussed what was necessary to make the fresh safe.

It was stated that the spinach needed to be boiled for a minimum of 3 minutes to make it safe.

So far they are warning against fresh spinach only, not frozen or canned.

And also anything with fresh spinach in it. But for some reason, I'm just not in a spinach mood these days.

Interestingly enough, the other four guys cited with Willie (riding his tour bus) ranged...

...in age from 50 to 75.

Whoa. Talk about losin' it as you get older! These guys weren't just shufflin' from age!

Michael

I threw out all the spinach, bagged and bunch, and the bagged salad greens too - rats.

We really wanted sauteed spinach with our eggs yesterday but I made baked french toast instead.

I'm not taking any chances with this, and I love that farm's produce too! but I'd rather not test the waters, they have no idea what is going on...

no, they are warning against frozen too. anything dated after Aug. 11th, I think that's the right

date. i'm only using local produce right now, from the farmer's market and health food co-op. pretty scary stuff smileys/frown.gif

thanks Lin, now I can't stop singing "on the road again" '-)) whata blast from

the past, makes me want to get out my bells and love beads and find a volks wagon van.... on the road again.... LOL

Possibly because....(more)....

Possibly because frozen spinach is usually
cooked before you eat it, and the cooking
process kills any bacteria that might make
you sick.

Fresh spinach is often used raw in salads,
and the bacteria lives on.

And I'm sooo craving a spinach salad right now! Probably just because I can't have it, although I

had bought the spinach I ended up tossing, along with blue cheese to go with it. It's a few weeks until our local organic farm which specializes in greens opens and I can't wait! Their spinach is the big crinkly leaf kind, not quite as good for salads, but so fresh and delicious.

it gets worse, according to the news tonight, the farmers have plowed in their spinach crops

and will not be planting winter spinach. it will be some time before we will be able to buy spinach again. I'm gonna load up at the market this weekend.

they said that trying to pinpoint the source is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.... :-0

I heard the most interesting thing tonight

The announcer/disc jockey on the radio, during a news brief break or what have you, reported that Willie Nelson's tour bus had been pulled over because there was so much marijuana smoke that the officer smelled it as they were driving down the road.

GRRRRRRRRRR for inaccurate news.

I keep thinking about the bag of spinach that my son wanted me to buy last week

About three days before this came out. I don't know why I didn't but now I'm glad.
