NreallyFRC: Anyone read 3 Cups of Tea? Greg's Mom Jerene is coming to our bookclub Fri nite. Cool!

We've read it! Anyone care to share their latest bookclub reads?

Mine is:

"Little Bee" Chris Cleave
"The Help" Kathryn Stockett
"Racing in the Rain" Garth Stein
"The Housekeeper and the Professor" Yoko Ogawa

Last month we read the next one, Stones to Schools and in some ways it was even better

than 3 Cups of Tea. I didn't want it to end. We all loved it. This month we are to read Strength in What Remains by Tracy Kidder.

What are you all reading?

I just joined a book cub that has been going for 10 years. so far I've read:

The Help (current book)
The Witch of Portobello
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society
Handle With Care

Short List

Here are a few that my two book clubs have read recently.

Olive Kitteridge
The Professor and the Madman
The Elegance of the Hedgehog
Andrew Jackson
Gurnsey Sweet Potato Peel Pie Society
Cold Comfort Farm
The Toss of a Lemon
The Help
Wild Water Walking Club
The Last Mrs. Aster
Mud Bound
People of the Book

I loved

Olive Kitteridge and The Help (the first was beautifully written, the second a great story) Also loved Elegance of a HedgeHog (first 30 pages were tough but then it was extraordinary) and thought the Guernsey book delightful. Can't wait to try the others on your list!

Deb

He's coming to our campus in April.....

.... I already got tickets to go see him speak!

Huge fan, love his book, hope that one day he will win the Peace Nobel Prize

We just finished The Help; read Potato Peel Society last month.

I enjoyed The Help -- for a first novel, she did a great job crafting the characters and weaving the story. We all loved the Potato Peel Society, and the novelty of its' style. Next month we are reading Pat Conroy's South of Broad -- I tried to suggest that the group read The Great Santini, as Broad has gotten some rocky reviews and Costco didn't reorder it after its' first quantity was exhausted. Most of the ladies had already bought the book, however. Also on our list is The Dive from Clausen's Pier by Ann Packer, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, Garden of Last Days, and the Elegance of the Hedgehog. For a classic, this year we read East of Eden by Steinbeck.

Of those

Of those I listed, I probably enjoyed these three the most.

The Elegance of the Hedgehog
Gurnsey Sweet Potato Peel Pie Society
Cold Comfort Farm

One of our members is a travel agent and has offered to create a trip to London with a side trip to Gurnsey. We're considering it.

we had a wonderful evening with Mrs Mortensen---such a treat. she is in Alaska for a year

visiting her cousin and doing some speaking. She said Alaska was vwey kind to their mission---must be all these outdoor folks. our next book is City of Thieves
