Nutmeg. I'm lost buying nutmegs. I used to bring them back from the Caribbean and it seemed

they just couldn't be any better. They were 'imported' from Jamaica. I love nutmeg and use a half every time I turn around.

So I've turned around too many times lately and am down to ONE!!! I've been looking in the local stores and all I can find comes from Indonesia. And they are tiny. I thought the best came from Grenada but I could be wrong. My experience in buying these guys is too limited.

Does anyone have a huge preference? Should I go online and try to find Caribbean nutmeg again? I really don't want to opt for the jarred McCormicks variety. I just sense that they might be so old. Who knows?

It must be one of those things like Mom's apple pie. You get stuck on the way it should be and everything else seems inadequate.

I buy my whole nutmeg from Penzeys Spice. Sometimes the nuts are so big

they don't fit into my nutmeg grater, and it takes big ones. Their nutmeg is great and comes from Grenada, the largest growing nutmeg area in the world.

It took me years to go through the ones I picked up off the ground in Grenada. Those included

the red mace on the outer shell. I think they lasted so long because they were still in the hard shell. I used to give them away to everyone to show the mace and inside nut.
