NUTS AND BOLTS SNACK MIX

When I was working back east several years ago we

had a Christmas pot luck dinner just before vacation. This mixture is the best snack mix I have ever had. It was a little pricey, so several of us chipped in and bought some of the items. I thought some of you might enjoy trying it for your holiday entertaining. Also makes a great gift when packaged attractively.

NUTS AND BOLTS

SAUCE:

1 lb. butter, melted

1/3 cup Worchestershire sauce

2 tsp. garlic powder

1 tsp. onion powder

3 Tbls. chili powder

Mix all togerther

MIX:

1/2 box Rice Chex

1/2 box Corn Chex

1/2-1 small box Cherrios

1 bag/box pretzels or small pretzel sticks

1 bag Bugles

1 or more cans nuts: Peanuts, cashews (I use both)

1/2 box Cheeze Its

1 bag Pepperige Farm fishies

Put dry ingredients into a large roasting pan, the size of aluminum roasting pans available in grocery stores. Mix all together, then pour sauce over all. Mix again. Bake at 300 degrees for 1/2 hour. Remove from oven, stir again. Put back in oven, bake 1/2 hour longer.

Store in airtight containers.

If anyone trys this, let me know how you like it.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY CHANUKAH, AND A HEALTHY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

Looks wonderful! Thx, Misplaced!

I'm not sure I'll get it made this year but will definately try it. It's similar to the ingredients in the one I make only mine but different seasonings. I put mine in a big trash bag when it's done! ha My DH can eat half the bag during the holiday season so if I am giving it for gifts I have to tin it up early! ha

Hope you're feeling better.

I love this - my Mom always makes something similar to this around

holidays - so much better than the pre-made stuff.

Thanks for reminding me of this.

HaHa, My DH picks out just the nuts and eats them all. He doesn't see anything wrong it. grrrr

LOL @ DH! Mine wouldln't DARE...hehe

He knows I'd kill him! I always keep nuts during the holidays, though.

Maybe you should try it. It works! smileys/smile.gif

Misplaced....do children like this snack mix or do you find......

it to be an adult snack? I'd love to take it to our adult kids for Christmas, but they have 3-8 year olds.

I never had any small children to serve it to, so I do not know if

they would like the flavor of the sauce that goes
on the mixture. I have only made it for adults. I would think they would rather have a sweet tasting snack. I have one that is made with Cherrios and I will post it in the morning.

I remember not liking it much as a child, but I love it now. Over at EPI

there is a recipe in the current swap for a white chocolate covered snack mix which I made and is very good(used red/green M&Ms for the holiday). It just wasn't very pretty because the white almond bark set up a bit quick and the pieces look a bit rough coated, but it is still quite tasty and kids love it---lots of sugar of course, but you can use whole wheat pretzels and cereal and good nuts too. That "puppy chow" mix is really good and kids love it. It uses chex cereal and melted chocolate and peanut butter and then you toss the coated pieces in powdered sugar for a "nugget" look. the chex site has lots of these recipes.
