NYC in May

I have tried to reply/send PMs about this but I keep getting error messages. Several of us will be visiting NYC in May. I'll be there 1-8 May.

My time is rapidly filling up with concert and play tickets and dates with friends, so if we're going to plan a meetup, we need to start thinking about it now!

Lunch/Dinner/Food-shopping adventure/Etc. Ideas??? (I STILL haven't been to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx to shop Italy!)

What are your thoughts, who is available, and what is your availability?

Please reach out to my friends Mathew and George if you go to Phantom

And Yes, I am having big problems with emails... Since the last nor easter, my email is not working properly....

And the lovely Barb. I knew afternoon was best for you....

and that works out best for my schedule as well.

I cannot wait to see you! Will George be joining us?

Sandra is probably going to be out of town.

Erin? Mo? Marilyn? Cyn? Anyone else?

Barb, I apologize. I got your emails about Matthew and George and

completely forgot to respond (work, in a word, has been, HELL.. When do I retire???)

Yes! George is in! Funny, George is heading out that weekend for the kentucky Derby.

which is so not his thing...

Not my thang either...

those of y'all not from around these parts probably don't realize the next big city you get to up-river on the Ohio River from Louisville and Churchill Downs is Cincinnati (The Southernmost Northern City). Mark Twain lived here for a while. Our sister city to the south is Lexington, home of Henry Clay, Jefferson Davis, Mary Todd Lincoln, the Hunt-Morgans, and the Breckenridges. That is how close we were to the Confederacy. 80 miles between Cincinnati and Lexington.

We eat all the Kentucky foods on Derby Day and sip our mint juleps. The first week of May the mint is jumping out of the garden for the juleps and we know how to freeze our sterling julep cups to get the proper frost.

I have been to so many Kentucky Derby Parties that I cannot keep track of them. Always Boring. But the ones in Lexington at the Bluebloods? That is when you've scored.

I played in the Lexington Philharmonic when I was an undergraduate at the Cincinnati Conservatory, I went to some major parties in Lexington!

The Bourbon flowed, the waiters had a tan and wore white gloves (I kid you not), the central hall tables were laden with delectable Kentucky specialties (have you ever tasted a true Kentucky Beaten Biscuit and Kentucky Ham with Bourbon Mustard???)

And I always managed to end up with the help in the kitchen for the after party.

Enjoy the time George! Kentucky is another world!!!

I'm there 4/30-5/3 Tickets for Helen Mirren on Mon nite, Hamilton on Wed nite, other

than that I'm working a schedule around museum times.
I will go ANYWHERE to meet up so long as someone gives me good** directions.

(good** being defined as implanting a tracking device in my neck and then finding me when I end up lost somewhere in Rhode Island. Or possibly Connecticut.)

OK, let's get this organized. How does Thursday, May 3 for lunch at 11:30 work for everyone?

Barb, do you need earlier?

We arrive on the afternoon of the 1st, have a matinee on the 2nd and Marilyn is leaving on the 4th, so that seems like the best/only time with the parameters

I will check with Erin and Sandra about their availability.

MoNJ & Cyn : Are you available?

What to eat???

We all met up at a Chinese restaurant several years ago and that really worked well. We just ordered a bunch of dishes and ate family style and got to try lots of things.

Barb, do you remember the name/location of that Chinese restaurant? I think it was Szechwan Gourmet on 39th St just off Fifth Ave. Sandra selected it and it was really good. Otherwise, I'll get a recommendation from my friend David who gets insider information from his Chinese colleagues on the current hot Chinese spots. There is also Xi'an Famous Foods-very different western style Chinese. We journeyed out to Flushing to visit the original location years ago, but they now have a couple Manhattan locations (amazing noodles and cumin lamb buns!!!).

Other choices: Zum Schneider https://www.zumschneider.com/ is a great German Biergarten in the East Village that has the advantage of being very near (about 6 blocks) to Veniro's, the, oldest Italian pastry shop in the city, for sweet indulgences and the best cannoli in Manhattan IMHO.

We could be real New Yorkers and meet up an an oldtime cheap NYC diner. Lots of possibilities for locations Applejack, Flame, or Cosmic are good Midtown possibilities with lots of space.

Any locations preferred? We're staying in Midtown but we can meet up anywhere.

5/3 works for me. Looking forward to it! Yes, I believe it was Szechwan Gourmet; we had a large

round table in the back of the restaurant. But, I am open to any restaurant. Just happy getting together!~

Hi All! Sorry for the radio silence......

I'm finally back to work after almost 18 months out. smileys/frown.gif
Lurking in from time to time, not cooking as much as I used to,
DH trying to pick up the reins.... not a chef!

Anyway, I am going to say yes! I'm in! Thank you for including me.

Looking forward to it!
