OCD chat: I wanted to thank all those participating in this effort.

The United States Marines have extended a trust by allowing us, relative strangers, to share a bit of holiday cheer with their soldiers in a foreign land.

I sincerely appreciate the effort you are all making to abide by the rules and restrictions set up for mailing items to servicemen.

Thank you, my creative friends, for working within these constraints. We want to make sure these boxes reach our soldiers.

It does my heart proud to be in such company.

A final reminder that I'll need to know what is in your box for the Customs form. If it's only cookies, you can just put "cookies" or "baked goods" or "candy", but ALL other filler items must also be declared.

Marilyn, I have a question about the OCD boxes, (sorry if you have already

answered this but I didn't see it in the previous links). Do you know if all the boxes will be sent together as a group? I just was wondering if the entire unit would receive their boxes a the same time--it would be a sorta holiday celebration for everyone at the same time! Just curious, that's all.

Thank you again for doing this for all of us!

Well, "God willing and the creek don't rise" that's the plan. And that's why

I'm sending them all off on Monday Nov 27, rather than whatever day I receive each of them from you all.

However, I do want to confirm WHY they have to go as individual boxes, instead of say, 4 large boxes with 10 each and distributed that way. I was just told that this is how they did the last 70 boxes (out of which only one was returned and reshipped back) and this was what I was to do.

Up until a while ago, I wasn't even allowed to do the bulk mailing...that was to be done by our Marine/LM coordinator. However, she lost her key Toys for Tots helper in our recent layoff and so I offered to take on the whole OCD project.

I'll be asking about the "large box" this week. It may have to do with the postage they have remaining from donations. It's exactly enough to mail 40 flat-rate boxes. Heck, I'll pay whatever extra postage if we can add a bit more certainty to this.

I'm also packing 4 extra boxes as "contingency" boxes just for that reason. What happens if 39 boxes arrive and one guy is left without anything? I know everyone will share, but its not the same as opening your own box.

Which brings me to: Barb, if your DH is still willing, I would greatly appreciate if he could write notes for those boxes?

Marilyn, got one more recruit Friday night....

so in all I should have coming to you:
2 from me
1 from coworker
1 from sister-in-law
1 from close friend

Sending them the instructions today - think I have it all cut asnd pasted into one email but if you happen to have anything that you have put together with all the instructions just so I can make sure, forward that to me - you should have my email.

Thanks!

If there is extra postage to be paid, count me in for a contribution, Marilyn

I'll help pay if you run into extra expenses.

Thanks Marilyn! I had sugar plum dreams of everyone opening packages together!

DH was working today and I just heard back from him re the additional letters. He said he would be glad to do them. He has made a good start on the two for our boxes already. He is so dedicated to writing these letters he even called his friend, retired marine/Vietnam Vet for advice!

PS will be glad to contribute to a postage fund if needed.............
