Oh Barbara - what a cherry feast at your house

Oh Barbara - what a cherry feast at your house

I SO wish I was your neighbor!

Your pie is gorgeous!

Best to you and Mike!

Pat I love Homestead Farm, it is much less "commercial" than Butlers. I used to go there

every year for the black raspberries and then they stopped growing them. Apparently they are very finicky plants and are not consistent enough in this area to grow profitably (this was several years ago, maybe there are new varieties by now.)

Sounds like you used to live in this area?

The pie looks fabulous, Barbara! Where did you pick? We used to pick cherries near

Martisburg, WV and around Stephen's City (?) near Winchester. I so miss that! I don't miss the sore thumbs and black fingernails from pitting all those cherries though! smileys/smile.gif Did you freeze several pounds for winter cherry pies?

Hi Pat! We went west about an hour to Purcelville VA to a small orchard. It was our first time

there. I have my calendar marked for the 3rd week of June next year so I can reach some cherries too!

This weekend we are going to Germantown MD to (hopefully) pick black raspberries. There is supposed to be a limited supply Sat AM. They have 300 acres there so there should be other goodies to pick too (blueberries, red raspberries, sweet and sour cherries and later a massive crop of blackberries).

I grew up in MD so I am more familiar with the PYO farms there. I am having a hard time finding ones here in NOVA that aren't hours away. I guess I am just too close to the city now smileys/frown.gif

Used to live in Harper's Ferry, WV, but grew up in Arlington, VA.

I went to Butler's a couple of times (for peas, I think). I worked at a migrant clinic in Martinsburg where we treated workers in the WV farms. Lots of places there to pick!

Sorry about that link that didn't work. Homestead Farms has a great website -- just google them! smileys/smile.gif
