To visit. Gahhhhhhhh. Scrambling tonight to find new fridge for delivery. We may be going down tothe river sooner than planned. We have a second fridge in garage so can transfer some stuff that is saveable. This is NOT what I had planned for tonight!!!

I feel for you - happened to us last year

a few days before we were throwing ourselves a big (80 people) anniversary party (I know - who throws there own? It was just an excuse for a bit party!!). We were able to purchase one and have it delivered the next day. I hope the same for you but thank goodness for the spare (we also have a spare)

Good luck!

On my top ten list of worst fears

I can imagine your pain! And after only 14 years - oh, no!

Our spare lived through the flood last August with only a compressor fan failure (or is it the condenser fan?) - dh strategically placed a big box fan at it's rear to provide necessary supplementary cooling. Over this year, most everything in it's freezer (on a list) has been used or tossed out but it remains packed full of bargains, must haves, and "valuable" leftover bits and pieces.

Yes - it has been my goal to retire it after almost 30 years of constant service. But I also love finding it very, very cold smileys/wink.gif Colleen

It has happened to us too, twice. The first time, we were in a panic

because our freezers and refers are always well stocked. We found out about a small grocery store near us who has lots of walk in freezers. They do a lot of processing of deer, elk, etc. They had lots of space available for our frozen stuff and charged us a very small daily fee. The second time, many years later, we called them right away, and they said, "bring it on in!"

So the idea is to look around your community and find someone who has lots of freezer space available. Usually a mom and pop type operation will be more receptive to assisting you, but you might be surprised to find something in the corporate world, too.

I had four guests whem mine went. Paid a crazy amount to have them deliver a new one

on the same day and THAT went 24 hours later. They paid for all the food I lost but I had coolers all over my kitchen and porch.

I feel for you!

when the repairman recommends replacing and not taking the job, I guess I need a new one. but it's

all clean and shiny and looks brand new. breaks my heart. He said he has a Kenmore chest freezer that is still going strong now for 40 years. made back in the day in USA. Iwant to sell this house in a year or 2 so I don't want a fancy $$$$$ fridge, but I don't want a noisy cruddy one either. scrambling to find something that can be delivered "soon". All the freezer stuff was completely thawed, so I think this must have started sometime last week and I just didn't open the freezer---hubby has been down fishing and it's just been me up here. and I'm still working through today. gahhhhh

That's very clever. Wouldn't have thought of that route because the only time

ours went out, it was a hurricane and EVERYONE'S EVEYRTHING went out for a bit.

I had thought about doing this one time and knew it would be

hurricane related and that in itself would be a problem. My stand alone freezer is always packed and so I bought a nice generator. Two months later Wilma wiped out our electric and cable for two weeks! I felt like a genius! I don't have that option now in this condo so back to worrying.

I thought mine died 2 weeks ago, around 17 years old. I was in a panic. We went turned it

off, then turned off the circuit breaker, waited about 10 minutes, then turned it everything back on, and did not open door for 1/2 hour. It ended up kicking back on. I think it is just going in over drive with the heat, and the constant opening and closing w/ the kids home. That said, it did give me a wake up call that I should consider how I will replace if breaks!

You may want to give it a try!~
