oh, I don't wash my avocados before cutting them. Big mistake. Outer skin may have listeria

True of melons too. When we did a mission trip to Ecuador our leaders washed

all our fruit in a bleach solution before cutiing into them.
And I NEVER wash avocadoes either!! LOL

I am so finicky that I wash EVERYthing as soon as it comes into the kitchen. Including bananas. I've

seen what tree rats do to bananas.

If it's a fruit in a box, strawberries, I wait until I use them but I wash them all at once, then wash the box and put them back in to use in bits.

Am I overdoing it?

I just learned that a friend does not even wash strawberries before he serves them to me. YIKES. So I ask too, why am I still alive?

There was a local catered party, not long ago, good catererer even, serving strawberries, but inexperienced and unsupervised staff did not wash the fruit. More than half the party ended up in the hospital.

I would ask why to do that. I know vinegar helps preserve berries but

not if you wash it off, I'd think. ;o)

I do berries just before using. I store them unwashed in a mason jar and I've had

strawberries last for 2 weeks I use the vinegar on all greens and most other fruits..CI says it kills 98 per cent of the bacteria.
