Ok, clearly I'm doin' it all wrong...how do I search over at the old Gail's?

I found rec: Margarita Pie posted by CathyZ on Gails

MARGARITA PIE WITH PRETZEL CRUST makes a 9" pie
1/3 lb corn oil margarine, melted
2 cups crushed pretzels
1 Tbsp. sugar
1-1/2 quarts vanilla ice cream, slightly thawed
4 oz frozen limeade concentrate, thawed
2 oz Gold Tequila
1 shot Cointreau or Triple Sec
1 whole lime, juiced and zested
1 lime for garnish fresh mint (optional)

Melt margarine. Crush pretzels in food processor or by hand. Stir crushed pretzels and sugar into melted margarine and mix well. Press mixture in a 9" pie pan bottom, pushing a bit up the side. Freeze 1 hour. Combine ice cream, limeade, tequila, Cointreau, lime zest and lime juice in a mixer. Whip at medium speed until well mixed and thick. Pile into the pie crust and freeze for at least 4 hours until firm. Garnish with thin slices of lime, lime peel curls and fresh mint.

Maria, not sure how to search on the old gails, i did a google search and was able bring it up.

A good thing for searching for a recipe like this is to use the words that don't usually go

together. After you bring up the forum search, select Gail's and all for the dates, put "pie, pretzel" in the search box with out the ". The first recipe that came up was Cathy's recipe. That works well if you're looking for a recipe like this that has an ingredient that's not usual in pie recipes. If you're looking for a recipe with more ordinary ingredients, good luck! I haven't been able to make a search by user name to work well. Anyone have any hints for that?

Another thing that works for me is entering as many ingredients as you're sure of in the search, while a lot of results will come up, the posts containing all the words will come up first.

To read the post at link, remove the square symbol at the end of the URL. Now why does it do that??

the user name went away and the names are part of the actual post for the older recipes. you have

to choose "Gails" and also change the date to "all" or you won't get much. It's still almost impossible to find anything older than 2000.

It's too bad, but amazing that barb was able to bring it up using google. Perhaps that should be the

thing we try. And there's no little square symbol at the end to block access.

That's the one! I tried using Google but didn't get it...how did you enter the search?

I'm curious what you entered to find it.

Thanks, I knew someone would find this!!!

Yes, but I tried Google first, so Barb - what search terms did you use?

Did you try with Epi, Gail's, pie, preztel, ? I tried both Epi/Gail's and got nada from the swap. I didn't recall it was CathyZ's because a user name usually works with a search.

Just wondering for next time what search terms you used that found a Gail's post.

I would love to say I did something really insightful, but I just tried a few "Margaritta pie" in

quotes and I added a few gail's , gails (No ') and /or / or not epi. I can't recall exactly which search it showed up under. It came up on the first page. When the search results came up, I only opened links that were linked to epi.

This time I did not need to do it, but on occasion, if it did not show up, I intentionally spell it wrong. ie Margaritta, margeritta, etc.. I do not believe that Gail's had spell check....

SO many great recipes lost over there! What a shame! I am so thankful for our place, and the work that was put into posting the T&T from Gails.....

Best,
Barb

Edited to say that I spelled Margarita incorrectly in the head post~ See, that is why sometimes, I purposely spell it incorrectly in google! : )
