make Michael in Phoenix buttermilk waffles tomorrow morning and I just bought some beautiful Cal. strawberries to put on them. I have them sliced with some sugar on them and I thought since it's two (really of age) adults how about a splash of ??? Grand Marnier? Brandy? Amaretto? Any ideas?

Huh? I'm not sure here but I hit enter by mistake which posted the...

subject line. Then I edited it with the text in the message. Did it post the subject line with NT before I finished the edit?

you got it with the edit. i'd...

go with either brandy or gran marnier. then again i'm not a fan of amaretto.

i compote fruit in both frquently and love it.

How about all three? Whichever you choose, I'd suggest beating it into whipped cream.

I have obviously lived a very sheltered life as I have never heard...

of Waffles Romanoff! So I did a google search and gosh it sounds wonderful. So here's what I'm doing. Both Brandy and Grand Marinier. We'll have one waffle with the Brandy, sugar Strawberries and one waffle with Grand Marinier, orange zest and sugar strawberries. Let the best Booze win! Hic!

That sounds fabulous, Joe! Here we were loving Michael's waffles with just plain sliced straw

berries, plain whipped cream and maple syrup. These additions sound decadent -- and our "when the kids go to grandma's" list smileys/smile.gif

I think it's been a whole two weeks since we've made Michael's waffles -- I see the waffle iron coming out again this weekend smileys/smile.gif

I had them again this morning--frozen in the toaster oven. I'm having way too much fun

with Michael's recipe and my new thrift-store waffle iron. I haven't actually tried them with booze yet--just whipped cream and strawberries. (I really should be at the gym instead of at the computer.)

Oh yes. I vote for Grand Marnier too. And I do seem to be resident boozer. Strawberries are also

terrific with Galiano, but I would think, not with waffles.

You could use Triple Sec in place of GM. It's a lot cheaper and turns the same trick.

But just give me some good maple syrup, any day.

By the way, Joy of Cooking has an outstanding recipe for waffles that includes beaten egg whites. Never had them better, but then, I haven't tried Michael's.

I'll bet this would be great - strawberry banana coupe. W/all the talk about these waffles, Michael

I must try!

Strawberry banana coupe
1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 pint strawberries, halved
1 ripe banana, sliced
1/3 cup light rum
2 tablespoons Grand Marnier

Melt butter and sugar in small skillet, stirring often. Stir in strawberries and bananas.
Heat rum and Grand Marnier slightly in small saucepan, just until warm. Ignite with match, pour over fruits in skillet or chafing dish, shake pan until flames die. Spoon over and serve.

Michael, these were FABULOUS! Straight up, all on their own, just...

wonderful! I was out of Grand Marnier so used Triple Sec and I loved that. Hubby loved the Brandy combo. Made all the batter up and put them in the freezer and will hope I can resist pulling them out to often. Thanks for such a great recipe.

Orchid and Ang - its actually a dessert, usually served over crumbled macaroons and strawberry ice

cream but can you imagine - hot waffles (which I must try), strawberry ice cream and coupe? What could be better!
