One of my mom's friends gave us these to take up to the mountains last week, and they turned out to be ridiculously good. Mind you, *I* wouldn't pay $44 for 12 buns (that's ~$3.67 per bun, for those playing along at home), but I was quite happy to bake (I use the term loosely--"heat"?) and eat them. The pastry is extremely good--heartier than croissant dough, but still flaky. Very simple, but very good.
The long weekend in the mountains was a hit, and my parents' anniversary dinner wasn't too labor intensive (Chicken Kiev, rice dish, salad with mandarin oranges and almonds, cheesecake), but they seemed to like it. smileys/smile.gif When it came time to open gifts, they'd purchased the exact same card. smileys/bigsmile.gif
