ok, seeking everyones 'final word' on food processors. cuisinart or ka or?? have read loads of

wildwoods

Well-known member
reviews on assorted sites and am left completely uncertain! apparently the ka is lousy for liquids, and there are many blade probs reported. but i have also heard that cuisinart quality has suffered significantly lately, and people are much happier with ka's. i dunno! i'd love to hear what you all have experienced. am i right in leaning towards a cuisinart?

I would not buy a KA. I have one now and hate it. I have a cuisinart and love it. 2 wks ago on

Iron Kitchens, Cat Cora and Tyler Florence neither one could get the blade out of the KA bowl, nor get the bowl off the KA power unit, just like mine!!! Once you're done using it, you're never sure you're gonna get it separated. Also, the blade doesn't go all the way to the edge of the bowl like it does Cuisinart. Cuisinart does its work much faster.
The bowl on the Cuisinart is not as heavy as the KA but I'd rather have a better made blade and power unit than I would care about the bowl and getting it undone.

I bought my latest KA's based on what they used to be. They're not what they used to be. I'll take a Cuisinart any day now. I have not used any other brands.

Love my almost 10 year old Cuisinart

knock on wood...

And it gets a workout. Besides the occasional pizza dough and other normal duties, it does 2 batches of dog food per week, mushing unpeeled squash, carrots and kelp.

Inside is the info you've requested....I also forgot to mention the KA blade is not a blade at all,

but 2 individual pieces of metal made into a half blade that slip into the spindle. if you have anything heavy like cookie dough, that piece of metal can get torqued and literally pull out of the spindle; which is exactly what it did to me when I was working with cookie dough.

The Cuisinart has one piece of metal that is the blade and it is literally a part of the spindle.

I wrote a whole story about this earlier this year. I was mixing cookie dough and all of a sudden I heard a terrible noise; I opened the lid and the 1/2 blade is literally standing up, bend and was out of the spindle. I coudln't believe it was made so cheaply. Then I couldn't get the blade off the spindle, nor could I get the bowl off the unit. Unbelievable!

read your posts, too...seems to be a theme here. couldn't justify a robot coupe, tho' the ka's are

apparently now made by the same company that used to make the cuisinarts.

I've only used liquid in my KA because I don't trust anything dry in it anymore. I've not had

liquid leaking from the Cuisinart. I made a raw chocolate pudding in the Cuisinart with maple syrup, avocado and cocoa, no liquid leaking.

I notice when I use the Cuisinart to make my raw fudge balls with cocoa, the cocoa will seep into the lid around the edge; if i make them in the KA, it comes completely on the outside of the bowl!

Not sure how 'liquidy' you mean

I've used it for soups and not had any problems. I did have a Little Osker years ago that leaked something fierce and haven't seen that issue. Sometimes I'll have not quite a 1/2 tsp of liquid on the body when I lift the bowl off after use.

My Cuisinart does leak some with liquids and especially with dry flour. Aggrevating but manageable

Totally manageable. If liquid goes higher than

the blade post, it can leak VERY slightly down the post, but it's not like you'll have soup running everywhere.

Also, a faint dusting of flour tends to puff out around the lid when you first turn the machine on. I suppose to prevent that you'd need a rubber seal or something. It's not a problem.

This is with a Cuisinart Prep 11 Plus (which may or may not have a different name in the States).

thanks all. prob would use immersion for soups, processor for hummous-like things and pastry and

shredding. i wonder why they don't make either of them with a seal? seems logical.
