Open House menu...

My sister, Maddy, is coming to town and I'm having an open house to show her jewelry. She buys vintage jewelry by the pound from ebay and reworks it into unique new pieces to sell. The event will run from 10-2 next Friday...here's what I'm thinking for the menu:

Mimosas

oj

coffee, tea, Pellagrino

AM...fruit plate, brie with nuts and brown sugar (briefly broiled), crackers, raspberry cream cheese coffee cake, bagels with smoked salmon roses, cream cheese, capers and red onions.

PM...cookies: brownies, gingersnaps, cowboy, cherry chocolate chunk; veggies with Ina's sun dried tomato dip, asparagus wrapped with proscuitto and boursin

Anything I should add or delete?

Thanks for any advice!!!

The menu sounds wonderful! Would you share the recipe for the raspberry cream cheese coffee cake?

It sounds so good. I'm a sucker for coffee cake, which is why I rarely make it...

In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of reserved flour mixture and almonds; sprinkle over top.

Bake at 350° for about 55-60 minutes or until cream cheese filling is set and crust is a deep golden brown. Cool 15 minutes. Remove sides of pan. Serve warm or cool. Cover and refrigerate leftovers. Yield: 16 servings.

I'd leave it as it - sounds good!! By the way.... what is 'cowboy' and 'cherry chocolate chunk'?

Cowgirl Cookies...oops, guess this is the female version smileys/smile.gif

Found these on the Bakerella blog...I haven't baked them yet, but they sure sound excellent!

Cowgirl Cookies

1 1/3 cup all purpose flour, spooned into measuring cup & leveled
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup cooking oats
3/4 cup m&ms
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 – 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Stir all the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.

Add:
1 slightly beaten egg
1/2 cup butter (melted slightly in the microwave)
1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients. Use the back of a large spoon to work it all together. You may even need to use your hands to get everything incorporated.

Then roll the cookie dough into 1 1/2 inch balls, place on a parchment covered baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes in a preheated 350 degree oven. I got about 26-28 cookies out of these.

Very nice, lizzy. The only addition I can see for AM would be peanut butter for protein.

Some folks may not like salmon.

Good luck.

Looks like a wonderful assortment. My only suggestion is sort of practical.

Depending on where you set the food relative to the jewelry. I have a friend who has sold her jewelry in her home. People would pick up food and walk around to look at the jewelry while carrying the food. She only served things like cookies so that she would have just crumbs to vacuum out of her carpet or to brush off the tables of jewelry. If you anticipate the guests carrying plates of food while browsing, you might want to avoid things that could fall on the floor and be stepped on like capers or small pieces of salmon or onion.
