Operation Cookie Drop: Flat-rate box information

Cookie Volunteers:

Orchid PM'd me today that her husband went to the P.O. to get the FLAT RATE boxes and they told him they don't have 11" x 8.5 x 5.5 box.

POs are supposed to carry the size I noted, but they're starting to limit the actual boxes at the post office for two reasons:

1. They want you to buy their unmarked, white boxes.

2. They want you to order the free priority boxes online so they don't have to store them at the POs.

I provided Orchid with the info below on getting a box delivered FREE directly to your house. She thought everyone should know about this in case your POs aren't carrying the boxes.

I ordered 50 boxes myself in case any boxes arrive severely damage or with too much lettering on the outside. They should be delivered in a week or so.

I had planned to simply put a new label on each box and repost it, but my LM contact thinks the boxes may come in marked up, so that's my contingency plan.

Here is a link directly to the Prepaid Priority boxes. Your postman will deliver the empty boxes directly to your house for NO CHARGE. But you still have to buy the $8.10 flat-rate postage stamp for it at the PO.

Here are the links:

go to usps.com

click on HOUSEHOLD

click on PACKAGES (SHIPPING TOOLS)

click on DOMESTIC SHIPPING > 2-3 Day Priority

click on GET BOXES

click on FLAT RATE

select 11" x 8.5 x 5.5 box

Order whatever you want and your postman will deliver it to the house. If you think there might be a problem, just mail your cookies to me in whatever format and I'll repackage them in the flat-rate box for you.

I'll be posting more this week about dates/addresses, etc, but plan on mailing to me November 17 or 18 (Friday or Saturday). That will get it here Thanksgiving week. I can repackage that weekend and repost them the following Monday (Nov 27).

PO deadline for guaranteed Dec 25 delivery is Dec 4. I'm backing up a week so we don't hit that last mad rush.

More info to come.

PS: Thanks again Orchid...very good idea.

OCD: Was a name decided for our group ?

My LM Marine liaison has a form letter than she would like to have put in each Marine's box.

You can still write a letter yourself, but this flyer will be similar to the letters that went in the previous donation boxes to them.

It will say that the cookies/goodies/candy were provided by ____ and the postage was paid by funds donated by Lockheed Martin employees.

Once she adds in our name to the form letter, I'll email the file to everyone (once I get my act together and get everyone's name and email info, that is) you can print it out and pack it in your box.

Here is my info:

Here's what I need from you:

For full disclosure to the Marine coordinator, I will be providing the names/addresses of our generous volunteers. Apparently, we are fortunate to be given this opportunity to show our gratitude in caloric form. As a general rule, our soldiers are warned NOT to accept homemade (non-commercial) food from anyone other than a known family member or friend.

This particular group of soldiers (6th Motor Transport Battalion, Marine Reserve Unit, Central Florida) has been working with LM for years. They know Debra (former Marine), our Toys For Toys coordinator. She is vouching for me and I, in turn, am vouching for each of you.

Please PM me with your:

name
address
phone number
email

I currently have 22 volunteers and we need 40 boxes. If anyone would like to fill more than one box, please let me know. Barb and orchid have already volunteered for two.

When you mail me your box, you will need to disclose EXACTLY what is inside, as I have to fill out a 4-part custom form for each box.

By the way, I was told the "Crystal Light--On The Go" drink packages that you mix with a bottle of water are "gold" to them over there. This would be a nice little filler.

I'm having a girl's night out on the 18th so let me see what...

THE GIRLS can do. I'll send out my final information on the get together next week and include a plea for them to all bring a box of cookies and we'll get them across town to the 24/7 post office on Sunday morning.
