orchid, I just tasted the pizza sauce and it is out of this world.

Absolutely! No one ever seems to try it out probably because it's not

cooked and how can it taste great when it's not cooked. Right? I'm glad you tried it. Why not make your life easier and thank you Susie!

I am no longer in Michigan...moved to Colorado seven years ago....

I clicked on this link to find a great pizza sauce recipe and was pleasantly surprised to see the link was the sauce I had posted smileys/smile.gif I am so glad to see the recipe is still being enjoyed! I still use it as my go-to pizza sauce as well. I can't take credit for the recipe...it is from Janet in NJ from the old Gail's site.

I still read the forum here but don't have a lot of time for posting. We moved to CO after the Pfizer site I worked for in Holland, MI closed down. After moving I started working as an independent contractor doing regulatory compliance audits at pharmaceutical and food plants so I am constantly traveling. And always so glad to get home so I can cook!

Wow! So great to hear from you Susie! We love when people check

back in when ever possible. I'm surprised that Janet has never spoken up but I'm grateful for where ever that recipe came from. It's a dang good one! Thanks for checking in!

Thanks Orchid! I try to read the board a couple of times a week...

and always enjoy the recipes and conversation. I travel almost every week and spend so much time typing audit reports, I find that my internet actions are limited to "Liking" the pictures of my 3-1/2 year old and 2 month old granddaughters on Facebook and pinning kitchen remodeling ideas on Pinterest smileys/smile.gif

Now that I've reset my password, I hope to be a little more active!

Marilyn I have not used this sauce with pasta but I actually did use it ..

when I made gnocchi (Lidia Bastianich's recipe). I thought I had pasta sauce in the refrigerator but it had disappeared...back when I had two always hungry teenage boys at home. I grabbed the pizza sauce and warmed it up. It was great on the gnocchi and now when I make gnocchi it's the sauce I use. And now I want gnocchi smileys/smile.gif

Oh, that's perfect! Thanks. Next question: can any old crushed tomato be used? Or do I need

to go organic, like Muir?

I usually just buying whatever brand I happen to have a coupon for...

sometimes it's Muir. But more often than not, it's Kroger brand crushed tomatoes.

Dawn had mentioned using basil tomatoes. I have on occasion stirred a couple of tablespoons of pesto into the sauce just to mix things up!

Mar, I went with the higher quality tomatoes that I could find. There

are so few ingredients in this sauce, I figured the cost was really not that important. I bought Contadina Pesto tomato paste by accident, and will continue to do so until I can't find it anymore. It would be great on pasta, just be sure to let it sit overnight. I am toying around with some variations; balsamic vinegar, anchovies, capers, etc. It is a very good basic tomato/pizza sauce. I am sure you will like it.

That's a good point about the tomatoes Dawn. I think I will

also go with a higher quality from now on. I have always used freshly grated Parmesan cheese..no powder from a green can smileys/smile.gif Your variations with basalmic, anchovies and capers sound great! Let us know how they turn out.

I also use this simple sauce. especially good on grilled pizzas. we like a smooth sauce, so I use

the immersion blender to blend it.
