thank you. boy was today confusing

my wife wants me to take her shopping at the thrift store. The guy at the counter who was 60s/70s asks us if we qualify for the senior discount - and gives it to us. I was stunned... insulted... grateful. My wife was amused.

Then we go to Home Depot and the guy in the apron - 50ish, asks me - "can I help you young man?"

I guess the lighting makes all the difference?
