Pictures of DJ in Iraq

I hope this link works.

Here are a couple of pix of DJ while he was in Iraq. My cousin said it looked like they were in Vegas with the mountains behind them. Some of the aerial shots that were taken from the chopper are amazing. However he said that the beauty from above is not evident on the ground. The land is all rocky and barren.

Great - but how do we get in to see your pictures...

links take me to your page, but when I click on LINK, it says you have no pages (?). Can't wait to see them, though!

Nice to see you again and I hope you feel better soon.

P.S. Oops, I didn't click on PICTURES - didn't see that link before ( Those pictures are good... the mountains in the background don't even look real in a couple of them. Good looking guy, too - you must be so proud. Where is he stationed now?

Yeah..

He is really cute. He still looks like a little devil though. Every time I see that smile I think he is up to no good!

I was just wondering about you yesterday...

Great to see the pictures and yes, he IS cute. (But they are all so young to my aged eye.)
The link worked out very well. I'll have to remember that.

Hope you are feeling more upbeat soon. It has been a long hard month here and I haven't posted in some time. So now, I will do so!

Thanks...

Just plodding along, trying to talk myself into the kitchen to start getting ready for Sunday, so far... I'm still at the computer!
Now I believe that the oldest solider in DJ's squad is 25. He is the short one in the middle with the funny glasses. ( he had eye surgery 2 weeks before they deployed and had to wear those awful things that make him look like a bug) So yes, they are all pretty young. The youngest one is the one in front on the left who just turned 20. DJ is the second youngest who is 21. Way too young for what they were doing, but that's just a mom's opinion.

Hi Dawn..

Forgot to respond to your question.. He is back at FT Bragg NC, and is attending Jump Master School. Unless his MOS changes which I doubt,he will stay at Bragg till his enlistment is up. Hopefully he will not be deployed again, but with the mutterings going on about Iran, I am not too sure we will be that lucky.

How soon is his enlistment up?...m

I know that some are extended (forced conscription to my way of thinking) but I hope DJ finishes soon. You'll rest easier when that happens.
Have a good Easter with those who are home with you. Perhaps DJ will be able to call.

Hi Anna

His enlistment is up in October of 07. There are days he talks about re-upping and other days when he just can't wait to be done. I sure can understand that.
Cici wants him home again because she is terrified that he will be deployed when she gets married, and lives in constant fear that he will not be able to escort her on her big day.

Great pictures Marg! Thanks for posting.

You must be so proud of him.

I grew up in So. Cal and Las Vegas. To me, those mountains look like home -- the Mojave Desert -- and not Iraq at all. I suppose it looks very foreign if you're from a green place.

Hi Joyce..

Yeah, when I first saw them it was like looking at a back drop from an old movie where they used painted sets. Actually right over that mountain range is the Syrain (sp) border. They were stationed way up north. One of his buddies actually has pix of them having a snowball fight. He said sometimes it was 90 during the day and down to 32 at night. the terrian was horrible and rocky and the regional food was worse. One of the local families offered them some kind of chicken in a vile green sauce. Due to the language barriers even with a terp. they were not too gung ho to eat something that looked like a science experiment. They stuck with drinking tea and eating pastries when they were offered hospitality by the locals. All in all he is happy to be home, but said the experience was something he will never forget, and the Kurdish people are very supportive and kind to the service people who are there. The pictures of them with the local kids are just adorable.

Hi Marg..

It's good to hear the impressions of someone who has "been there." I bet it will be something that DJ will never, ever, forget. Wow...snow ball fights in the desert..who would think that it is possible? He must be enjoying your meals and 'American' food again!
