Pie in a Jar- aren't these adorable?

Adorable yes BUT, I would contact the manufacturer of the canning jars first to

see if their jars can go into the oven. It's my understanding that the jars can break in the oven as canning jars are intended for use in hot water baths or pressure canners and are not designed to withstand the thermal stresses that occur with dry oven heat.

I had a canning book that said you could sterilize jars and bottles in the oven.

Of course, I don't remember which book it was in, but I will try and figure it out and let you know the temperature they used. I seem to remember that they either had the jars sitting in water, or partially filled with water.

To me it's not worth the chance. I think I'd rather use a ceramic ramekin or custard cup or

another vessel and hopefully achieve a better doneness to the lower half of the crust, which in the photos seems underdone to me.

The jars shouldn't have a problem...here's why...

Putting an empty glass jar in a 350º (or so) oven for 30 minutes to an hour might not be the best idea, however.....in this case, the jar is filled, and heat transference takes place, making the jars safe. The pie and filling absorb the heat from the jars and so the jars don't get dangerously (jar integrity) hot. Same principle as leaving an empty pan on an engaged burner...
