Please indulge me NFRC- My Beloved Dad turns 90 today and

He is the one who gave me my love of cooking- Born in Palestine Texas, he can add salt pork and onions to ANYTHING and make it taste great!

He was a fighter pilot in WWII and was at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked- He was on his way to church!! He retired as Lt Col USAF-

He taught me how to cook, and by fixing this little California Gal "treats" like buckwheat pancakes with sorghum syrup (yuk) He really broadened my culinary horizons!!!

Thank you for letting me post this on his very special day- I shall be seeing him after work and I just needed to get my feelings out before that!!

My hero is 90!!! Hooray!!!!

Your pride in your father is admirable. He is probably as proud of you as you are of him. Please

give him a hug from another child of a WWII veteran. We owe them so much.

You made my day, Tammy...a hug from me also. He's one of

a generation of men and women I so admire. They survived the depression, WW2, saw so many changes in their lifetimes and hey...they raised us didn't they? Enjoy your day with him. Did you learn about collards from him, lol? How were your collards? I made them yesterday, also.

Yes, he was the "collard king" and mustard greens -

He used to make us jump out of the car if we passed a field and grab them for him- And this is in "snooty" Southern California!

I once caught a "rat" in my house, which turned out to be a baby possum and my Dad said " Hope you kept him- those are good eatin'!!!"

And yet he loved foie gras and oysters and caviar and bought us each a bottle of (very ) fine French wines for the year of our birth-

He was born at home and they didn't even have indoor plumbing in those days- His mom, all 4'10" of her, could "truss a hog on a block and tackle"!!!
imagine, seeing all that! No wonder all he wanted to do was fly!

Thank you- I will pass your goodwill along to him- he is still sharp as a tack, but doesn't move as fast anymore!....

My kin are from Arkansas, so I'm right there with ya - what a lovely dad! Happy Birthday!!!

I hope he knows how much he means to you. How lovely for you both. And what a milestone for him.

What wonderful memories he created with you, and

cultivated a culinary interest you now share here with all of us. Happy birthday to your Dad!

Thanks for all your good wishes! My Dad and I were touched-Though

we are having a BIG party for him on Jan 20, the family took him to dinner on his REAL birthday and he had a great time!

Yes he is a hoot, and the first thing he asked us all was why we hadn't come to HIS house for Black eyed peas the day before!!!

He also said to tell you all, that "He was proud to have served his Country, and he would get back up in his P38 in a second if they ever needed him again!"

Brought tears to the old blinkers, Congratulations on reaching 90! he is lucky to have you as his

sprog.
