Pound Cake Question

I have been making the same recipe for years. I usually bake the cake in two loaf pans so I can freeze one. The last two times I've made the cake the top was hard and crumbled. I thought I might be cooking it too long so I really watched it today....same story. The oven is at 300 so I don't think it is cooking too fast. I have been cooking it on the middle shelf. Any ideas?

 
If all variables are the same, such as the same oven, the same pans, the...

...same ingredient brands, the same mixing method, then I would use a good oven thermometer and double check the temperature, if you haven't already done so. Thermostats can go haywire at the most inconvenient times.

That's all I can think of.
